Thanks God! and Way to go Stephen - not just a win, but a pin... and that was one of his goals - but he was ready to give it up...Thanks God! - Cheryl

First day action

What a topsy turvy world we live in. We are reminded of this with the opening of another state tournament. A tournament that is always filled with tears, blood ,heartache and the fulfilment of dreams. The Bearcat's, coming off of five straight tournament wins, and carrying 14 state qualifiers begin there quest....at the quest.

The day is full emotions and for both the wrestlers and the coaches. The first stress of the day is making sure that everyone gets through weigh-ins okay. As a coach we have learned not to take that for granted! If you were there and listened to all the forfeits, you would know why. Everyone got through that okay and were ready to compete. On a personal note, it was nice to see all the old friends who are in the coaching world now.

The Bearcats started the 1st round off right. At 103 Ryan Bauer wrestled an excellent match and turned his opponenet in a spladle for the win. Asa Stansbury, Zach Rees, and Tim Crocker also all won in impressive fashion before the Bearcats suffered their first set back at 130 when Andrew Smith lost to a tough opponent. At the end of the first round the Bearcats held a 8-6 record. Winners were Ryan Bauer, Asa Stansbury, Zach Rees, Tim Crocker, Brandon Neujahr, Nick Rimpley, Jensen Foss, and Junior Chavez. Bearcats that wrestled valiantly in defeat were Andrew Smith, Noah Gable, Matt Driml, Mike Butler, Sean Cherry, and Joe Allen.

The second round was rough for the Bearcats but three pushed through to the finals. Senior and KHS all-time wins record hold Tim Crocker continued his search for a championship by beating Kavon Jones. Crocker had lost to Kavon in the state tournament last year but he completely controlled the match and won in impressive fashion. According to the rankings, this was a match of 1 vs. 2.

Well, this Coach is getting tired. Its nap time. Best wishes to all and here is to another exciting day at the Quest.

Go Bearcats!
